Lawrence Fiorillo is another dedicated and talented artist who may not be well know yet, but watch out, all you bagmakers...he is going to give you a run for your money.  He will be display one of his bags at the 2018 CLA show, at the New & Aspiring Artist table.

Lawrence's Bio:

My name is Larry Fiorillo and I’m from Orange county New York.  I’ve been involved with living history for about 22 years.  I began making hunting pouches about three years ago after reading TC Albert’s “Recreating the 18^th Century Hunting Pouch.” Since then I’ve gone on to make some 50-55 pouches among various other leather goods such as straps, slings, sheaths, shot pouches and the like.  I like to work mainly with vegetable tanned cowhide and bark tanned deerskins.  As for fabrics, when I do use them I tend to keep it simple, hemp and linen or whatever period correct material I may have on hand.  Plain linen and hemp thread are all I use to construct my pouches. 

 I enjoy crafting pouches of all styles from the crude homemade backwoods bag to one fresh from the harness maker’s shop.  I’ve made numerous pouches for re-enactors as well as for the more casual black powder shooters.  Generally I stick to the known basic shapes, patterns and methods of construction consistent with the late 18^th and early 19^th century examples.  Every now and then a bit of small artistic flair may be added when the whim takes me, but usually it is simple in nature.  I enjoy taking custom orders and discussing the construction of the pouch with my client, showing photos of my work as the project progresses.

I feel I owe a debt of gratitude to those well known bag makers who have come before me and have greatly influenced my work.  I’ll not name anyone here for fear of forgetting someone, for there are many.  I look forward to thanking a few in person at the (2018 CLA) show.  I’m truly honored to be here and I thank you all for taking an interest in my work.

Nate's Bio:

  I  will be displaying shooting bags mainly and maybe some other small leather items.  I started doing leather work about 4 years ago  but started making shooting bags about 2 1/2 years ago.

Chris Crosby

Chris Crosby

Chris Crosby is another one of the great "New & Aspiring Artist" who will show his work at the new artist table at the 2018 CLA show in Lexington.


Chris's Bio:

I live in Lebanon, IN, I have been a history nut for at least 40 of my 49 years of life.  I have been involved with living history in conjunction with my passion for hunting, fishing and the woods since I was 9 years old. 

I am primarily a hunting bag maker, but I also make knife sheaths, axe scabbards, knapsacks, market wallets, moccasins, wallets, clothing, powder horns, belts, and many other things.

My two primary areas of interest historically are Provincial Ranging during the Forbes Expedition 1758, and the early migration from Virginia into Kentucky.

I am constantly researching, reading, and trying to improve my knowledge and skill in the craft to bring my customers the best piece possible.

Angela Jones McMullen

Angela Jones McMullen

One of the new and aspiring artists who will be displaying a floorcloth at the 2018 CLA show in Lexington, KY July 17-18 is Angela Jones McMullen.

The floorcloth she created and will be displaying is below: 

Angela's Bio:

Angela Jones McMullen grew up in Modoc Illinois. She started reenacting in 1978 at the beautiful Fort de Chartres state park with her mom and siblings. Throughout school she excelled in the arts & dreamed of becoming an artist. After completing high school money and college were not something that was even remotely possible. She began a career as a welder  an all along feeling compelled to the importance of staying true to a gift that only our creator can give, she walked away from welding and started creating art again. Being around the reenacting world the majority of her life and the love of history it made perfect sense that she needed to find an art form from times gone by to research & potentially persue. Intrigued by floorcloths while researching and  those artists who traveled from town to town leaving homes & taverns filled with beautiful art for all to enjoy she was hooked. Angela loves to read and learn from their ways but also learning new techniques to master for a future in something she holds so close in her heart.

Her historic floorcloths are a beautiful form of functional art.
